Dr Hugo Fernandes, a leading fertility specialist and Melbourne gynaecologist, practises at renowned Melbourne IVF clinic. His career reflects a lifelong commitment to advancing women’s health and providing expert male infertility treatment.
Born and raised in Melbourne, he completed his specialty training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Monash Health in 2011, where he discovered his passion for minimally invasive and advanced gynaecological surgery. Unusually for a gynaecologist, he also trained on a colorectal and general surgical unit to broaden his surgical expertise. In 2014, Dr Hugo completed a two-year fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery at The Royal Women’s Hospital, becoming one of the first AGES-accredited laparoscopic surgeons. This distinction places him among a select group of specialists trained and accredited by the peak gynaecological society in Australasia to perform surgeries at the highest level and mentor other surgeons. He was also awarded the prestigious David Healy Memorial Travelling Fellowship, which enabled him to train in France and the USA.
Building on his surgical accomplishments, Dr Hugo completed a Master’s in Reproduction and undertook IVF and fertility training with a world-renowned unit, further solidifying his expertise as an IVF Specialist in Melbourne. In 2019, he co-founded Newlife IVF with five other leading fertility specialists, creating a practice dedicated to delivering compassionate, personalised, and advanced fertility care for women and couples.
